At the age of 28, after 15 years of deer hunting, I killed my first buck this morning. A big-bodied 6pt.
With only 2 weekends left in the season I'd decided I'd shoot the first decent doe I saw. At 915 I spotted a doe in the woods about 85 yds from the stand. I immediately threw my gun up dropped her in her tracks. As I chambered another round, some movement caught my eye about 10 yards behind her. That's when this dude stepped out. I saw the rack and didn't even bother counting points. Shot him at about 70yds, right behind the shoulder and found him laying in a pool of blood 20 yds away....from the time I first saw the doe to the time I shot the buck was, at most, 30seconds.
30 seconds and 2 deer including my first buck. It was a good day.
