Man.
This thread is kinda like the Energizer Rabbit.
It just keeps going, and going, and going.

The geese around here seem unusually small this year. I've seen a few of the bigger geese, but not many and none that I think would even come close to 14.

I shot two local banded geese. Didn't weight either of them, but one was a female banded in 1999. That should be full grown and I doubt she weighed 9 lbs. I thought it was a young of the year until I saw the well worn band on her leg  The second one was a banded a female banded in 2005 and that was a bigger goose that was probably in the 11+ lb range. I wonder if the locals are cross breeding with the smaller geese. The definitely seem to be trending down in size.

Hmmm. We shot two geese in our late resident season (mid-February) that weighed 14.6 and 14.8 pounds. This is on a scale that undergoes regular inspections by the Department of Agriculture. Those geese were HUGE, I even remarked on their size as they crested the hill a good 125 yards away, saying something like "Here comes two BIG birds." We've shot a bunch of residents that go in the 12-pound range, but the difference in a 12-pounder and a 14-pounder is noticeable.

If the contest is now down to 14 I think we have a good shot at it next February unless someone else beats us to it.

The 18 lb goose is as bad as the guys who see 2 to 3 30 inch bucks every year but can never seem to put them in the bag.

Hilarious, I was just thinking about this thread the other day when a guy was telling me about a 18lb goose he shot. Now it's back.

You know,I was thinking about this one also because the other day I had a guy trying to tell me that he and his buddy shot a 30 pound honker on opening weekend of Canada goose season. I about pissed myself laughing after that one!

What's the heaviest goose anyone has ever exaggerated to you about? Can anyone beat 30 lbs?

A 30 lb goose, There is no way I could hold a straight face on that one.

Did I tell you about the 12lb mallard I shot last year :hammer:

After keeping the contest going for over 4 years, no one has won it yet. A lot of guys think they have one until I tell them to weigh it on a cerified scale!

Read this thread from start to finish, and its like reading a book of fairy tales. I can't believe how every year the largest goose killed is 1/4# under the required weight to win. What are the odds?
