If you own an iphone, please consider activating the Find my Iphone function on your phone. My wife called this morning from the nutrition center where they work out and asked me to log in and ping her phone since she couldn't find it. As soon as I logged in, it was showing to be on the south side of the neighboring city that I used to be a cop in. From where it was located, I immediately knew it was stolen. Immediately, I set the phone to "Lost Mode" and the phone was instantly locked and a message stating "this phone has been lost, if found please call (my cell phone number)" was sent to her phone. In locked mode, they can only call the number you program in. Anyway, within about 2 minutes my phone rings and was showing my wife's number on the caller ID. When I answered, the thug started telling me he bought the phone for $75 and so on. I informed him I wanted the phone back and he asked what I would pay to buy it back. I told him $100 and we set up a meeting place. In the mean time, I called the PD that has jurisdiction over where it was stolen and had them meet my wife there. As soon as I was about dressed, the officer called and wanted to help me recover the phone. We contacted my old agency and had a couple of them meet us in the area that they agreed to meet me at. In the meantime, I'm getting several calls from the thugs asking me how long I was going to be and then they changed the meeting place. They called back a few minutes later telling me to bring $150 instead and making sure I hadn't got the law involved. I lied and told them I had warrants against me and I wasn't about to go to jail over a cell phone. The final meeting place was finally decided on and I went to meet them while the other 2 agencies set up a loose perimeter. I was on the phone with one of the other cops while I was going alone to the meeting place and saw 2 thugs walking down the street coming away from where I was supposed to meet. From the way they were eyeballing me (I had given them a description of my truck) I felt this was them but couldn't be certain. I pulled into the zoo parking lot I was supposed to meet them in, but no one was around. While on the phone with the officer, I checked the location on the find my iphone app and realized they were on the other side of the zoo about a block north. I relayed the information to the other cops and they headed that way and was able to grab them. The thugs saw the police coming and pitched the phone over a fence into a neighboring yard. I was able to find it within a minute of pulling up. It did end up being the 2 that I saw walking away from the area as I arrived. I wish y'all could have seen their faces when I explained to them that the guy they were trying to sell the stolen phone back to was a deputy and the phone belonged to his wife. It was priceless!
