For a guy that has coon hunted for 20 years, I guess he never skinned one out then. And I have heard that growl many times when finding a big ol coon in my traps.

No doubt it is a coon with the mange’s or some other ailment that caused its hair to fall out. I hunted em six nights a week for years and there is no mistaking the growl and the body.

Swamp what kind of recipe's you got for BBQ coon I mean CHUPACABRA. I know you got some kind of cajun way to cook em up. We have cooked them low and slow with a sweet BBQ sauce kinda reminded me of bear as faras the texture of the meat.

Just curious more than anything I have cooked several over the years but, I really just wonder if you boys down on the Bayou ever eat racoon anymore. Since the old timers around here have mostly died out I never hear of anybody eating them anymore. I got a good buddy out in AR that will eat them and he loves Nutria rat. We killed him two big ole nutria when we went out hunting spring snow geese this year and he was tickled to death to have them.

I have been at hunting camps here where raccoon was served and it was good. That was years ago though. We do eat nutria pretty regular during duck season if we are at the camp/duck shooting is hot/we stay longer and run low on provisions. I cook it for the novelty when we have out of state guests because it's good and different. I usually pull the back straps out and the back legs, then pull the guts to the side and take out the tenderloins-I never bother with skinning one out all the way. Just the loins and back legs is enough for 4 people in a stew. If I had some in the freezer I would bring it to Byers for the cookout and make some believers. It is as good as rabbit.
