what is this

This stuff is sprouting up all over newly aquired duck hunting hole. From the looks of the old dead stuff it can get pretty tall and over run a place quick.

It's a tool for removing dead hookers....(old joke on DHC, some will get that)

That looks like cattails to me.

Cattail or Phragmites. Phragmites is a common reed and can choke out most any other vegatation quickly.

Yes it was a legit question. Me n buddy both didnt know what it was...never seen cattails at the begining stage before if that is what it is...

Its growing in water from 6 inches deep to a couple of feet deep

Good luck with that. It'll take more than cutting to get rid of that, depending on the plant species. If that is your goal.

Its not growing through the entire swamp just along the outside edges where its a little more shallow

Cattails have a very thick root/tuber system that is almost impossible to get rid of by hand. You either need heavy machinery to dig it out or heavy duty herbicides to kill it depending on how thick they have spread.

I'm guessing, if it only grows in the shallow water near the edges, that's the only place you'll have it. Some aquatic plants will not grow past a certain depth.
