Tipping Question

I know it is standard practice (provided he does a good job and isn't a d-bag) to tip your guide after a hunt. However, that practice is generally discussed in terms of a guide that is working for a guide service. This year I'm hunting a little differently. I'm using a guide, but he's, shall we say, self-employed. He doesn't run a formal guide service, but guides on the side on properties he leases. He has guide experience and comes recommended from a guide I trust, so
I'm sure he'll provide a good experience. The question is, since I'm paying him the guide fee and not an outfitter or service, should I tip? I'm leaning towards "no," but I'm admittedly new to the guided hunt world (this being my 2nd) and would appreciate y'all's input.

I wouldn't tip side jobs which is what it sounds like. Most side jobs don't report for taxes, pay for insurance, have employees or advertise much so he's already probably making more than a Guide Service.

I've never been on a guided hunt, but if I had I would tip a company hired guide. I wouldn't tip a side gig guy. All that money goes right in his pocket. That would be like tipping the owner of a big guide service for putting you on a good hunt. I say Hellz no.
