argh... i called a taxidermists to get a shoveler mounted and hes like well it usually takes me about 4 monthes for a duck and ill do it for about 150 since ur new. i show up and hes like it usually takes me about 4-12 months and ill do it for 200. So im like 200 not bad what the heck it cant take him that long.. Then i call him up about 5 monthes later and hes like yep just what i said, it'll take me about 12 or 13 months. :pissed:
The group ended up with 420 birds.

GB, dont let them push you around cuz yer "young"

I had that stuff happen to me all the time w/ gunsmiths. DON'T be rude, but tell em yer not gunna take that stuff.

But do it in a polite fashon, or you could end up w/ one messed up lookin mount.

Most the time once they realize yer not some twit, they will start to treat you better, and give you better service

Or it could be that it was getting latter in the season and his buisness was picking up, like it always does in the fall so it would take longer to do, most places I have done a duck or grouse for me quote me 12 months..... and it seems like he was offering you a SPECIAL rate to work on your stuff because you were new, but then you didn't take advantage of it, so five months later when you called back, he gave you standard pricing......just pointing out the other side of things....
My goal in life is to be as good of a person my dog already thinks I am.

Take your business somewhere else. I had business cards to 3 different taxidermists here and all three had duck prices from 70 to 125, and all of them were reputable. Tell him he is about to lose a customer if he doesn't start following his word.

One mallard I shot, I should've gotten mounted. It was when I just started hunting so I didn't know how big they could get. This think looked like he was on roids. I've never shot another mallard 3/4 of his size. This thing was incredible.

Gooseboy did you pre-pay the FULL amount or just put a deposit down? If you just put a deposit down and the man/woman has fully paid work to do, the fully paid gets done first. Always! Even if he/she is done with fully paids, they never are unless their work sux, and working on your or another deposit only mount and someone drops off an animal and fully pays, then yours goes back on the "get to it when I can shelf". Also on another note, when these folks have "deposit only" mounts to do, which is the bulk of their work, it's usually first come in, first to get worked on. Sorry, but that's just how the business works. The fully paids get done faster. My friend has 15 deep freezers full and he works just as fast as he can without sacrificing quality. He gets nasty phone calls and visits from people all the time, which he fully understands the want for someone to get their animal back, but it's the ones from people that have paid nothing down or something like $25 on a $300 project that really tweeks him. But he can't go to a "fully paid for when you drop off" policy either. Most people just don't have the money to lay down all at once. You would be amazed at work that he has completed because someone calls and complains and "promises" they'll have the full amount if he can get it done asap. 90% of the time, he gets stuck with a completed mount and the person doesn't pay and sometimes never pays for the completed work and avoids the phone calls to tell them that their work is done and bring some money and pick it up.
Hey, did you grab the blind bag with the shells when we left the truck?
