Non alcoholic beverages

Postby gahunter » Fri Aug 05, 2005 6:34 pm

What do y'all call those drinks that don't have any alcyhol, come in can or plastic bottle and have fizz in 'em?

I usually refer to 'em as cokes. If there is a big selection I call 'em soft drinks. This should be pretty predictable by where you live. :salude:

I don’t know, I guess I just grew up calling it soft drink. I asked my wife and she didn’t have an answer either. :help:

It's funny how things get different names in different parts of the country.

The only one I really don't understand is coke. I've heard it used before, but how does it work. If you say you want a coke, wouldn't you get a Coke as in Coca Cola or do you use the Cola at the end when refering to the brand.

I'm sorry that was way to much thinking on this subject.

H-2-0-FOWL and gunman have already hit the nail on the head. Mt Dew, Water and Miller Lite...not much else is needed. And we Minnesotans tend to call non-alcoholic, carbonated beverages: pop.

If somebody asks what you want to drink, it is almost an involuntary response you just say bring me a coke. Or you can say something like "I got a bunch of cokes in the cooler" and it would really be a variety of "soft drinks".

I call soft drink, soda pop just plain old pop, a candy bar to you is a chocolate bar to me , fish & chips or fish & french fries. It all depends on what you grew up hearing these things called.
Build memories, take a kid out doors and teach them about nature by interacting with it, hunting and fishing.

Learn from the past, don't dwell on it.

O'Dooles NA is my beer of choice.

I drink lots of water, at least 6 botles a day, lately with the heat, been closer to 10 1/2 l bottles a day.

For soda pop, I drink ALL diet - Mtn Dew, Fresca, Coke, Barq's, Sprite, Orange Slice, Brisk Ice Tea, about 4-5 per day in addition to the water.

Postby choclab » Sat Aug 06, 2005 2:04 am

My family has always called it pop or soda pop. Any lemon-lime pop then water then a super cold Corona followed by a few shots of 1800. mmmmmmmmmmm

You try being married to someone who is always criticizing my every choice of words!

Ie. "Don't say firefly! It's a lightning bug!"

Or, "It's not a soda! It's a Coke!"

Or, "Stop saying pecan, it's pee-can!"

Or, "It's not a bulldog, it's a DAWG!" (I really am working on that one!)

And on and on and on! I can't help it if I didn't grow up in Jo-ja and lived all over the world with my Marine dad! I can't help being confused!

...& pee-can, maters, and we eat dinner in the middle of the day and supper at night. for some reason the rest of the country (outside of the south) has gotten everything confused... :hammering:

I forgot about dinner vs. supper. I am always getting tripped up on that one too. Let me ask you this: when you want to go out to a restaurant for an evening meal, do you ask your wife, "Do you want to go out for dinner?" or "Do you want to go out for supper?"

HW, the latter. i always ask her...."what's for supper?" or going out "where'd you like to eat supper tonight, honey?"

it sounds weird if i say dinner. she feels the same way and my 7 year old also calls it supper. she says at school everyone calls dinner lunch. that confused her for awhile. you should have heard me trying to explain that to her. it was comical...
