CLICK ON ITThis came from a Rig Manager for Global Marine Drilling in St. Johns, Newfoundland. They actually have to divert the path of these things away from the rig by towing them with ships! In this particular case the water was calm, & the sun was almost directly overhead so that the diver was able to get into the water and click this pic. Clear water huh? They estimated the weight at 300,000,000 tons. And now we know why they say one picture is worth 1000 words.......... and now we also know why the Titanic sank!

Cool pic.

But the Titanic sunk because of a mans arrogance of not heeding the ice berg warnings and steaming at full steam ahead in the night.

That's an awesome pic!

Did you know that if the Titanic had continued full steam ahead and hit the iceberg head on it probably wouldn't have sunk? By slowing down and trying to turn away from it, the iceberg was able to rip open way more of the airtight compartments along the side and sink the ship. Had they hit head on, only a few compartments would have been damaged and the ship would have been disabled, but it would not have sunk. That misjudgment, plus the arrogance of the cruise line's president with wanting to break the record for an Atlantic crossing was what killed 1,500 people. Just a little trivia for ya!

fake or not...still cool. and scientifically accurate too. it is a fact that 90% +/- of an icebergs entire mass is submerged and unseen.

Yea that’s defiantly fake:
Reasons:
1. If water was that clear then you could distinguish the entire Ice piece even through the surface wake.
2. The sun's hitting the left side of the burg yet there is a dark spot right under the surface on far left and ice under water in the middle where the sun should be block is lighted.

Yep, fake but cool. If it was real, there would be a definite line between the surface of the water and the bottom across the lens of the camera. The picture has kind of a smooth transition.

Thats a great looking image but clearly not possible so its artificial.Even the clearest water will diffuse light to the point that an object that size would not be entirely visible.Especially in the North Atlantic, the water may be cold but it is teeming with Plankton and that cuts visibility to under 50 feet or so.

actually that is a real image...well kinda. my old underwater photography professer ralph clevenger at Brooks institute of photography took that image. He actually composed 4 images to make that 1 picture. the top of the iceberg was shot somwhere and the bottom was shot somewhere else which is actually the top of an iceberg too he just flipped it and digitally altered it. Great teacher and awesome photographer! oh and he has made alot of money off that one image!
