"Boat Banging"

Postby hunterbeatle » Sat Oct 08, 2005 10:50 am

Has anyone heard of a state or federal law against "banging on your boat" while duck hunting? There's nothing on the federal or local websites. Just curious to see if anyone knows about this.

A buddie of mine was issued a warning because he had done it to scare the ducks up.

Let me Refraze my statement by saying the ducks landed in the decoys early morning before shooting lite. When he could shoot He did not want to shoot them on the water so he used and paddle and tapped the side of the boat to make them fly.

i see. i couldn't figure out why you would want to bang the boat with ducks around. makes sense though...another method i have seen used throwing a rock or shell into the dekes. i usually just stand up and spook them if needed.

The only way they can make it stick is if they charge him with harrasing wildlife but then again he was hunting wasn't he?

Oh, I thought you were going somewhere else...............

Issued a warning. Thats absurd. I would laugh at that warden and tell him go worry about the other kind of "boat banging." Surely there are more pressing matters at hand......I don't know, like shooting a Bald Eagle.

I am so disappointed. To paraphrase a country song, I thought this was about “making waves in a no wake zone.”

I thought the topic was about boats colliding in getting to a spot in public water.

Actually why your buddy was issued a warning is because of the no rally clause in the Federaql regs. You may not chase, rally, etc. ducks so that you or others can then shoot them is the basic intent of the law.
