Best area for ducks

Postby Boatman » Fri Dec 07, 2012 7:05 pm

Hi guys,Hope I can get a straight answer. Looking at buying land and maybe moving to Missouri. What area of the state would be best for ducks-geese. Looking for NE-NW-SE-SW-central? Oh and boating-fishing too?
There are still things worth dying for and 1 of those things is freedom.

I love Geese

Genesis 27:3 Now then, get your weapons, quiver and bow, go out in the fields and hunt some wild game for me.

ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE???????????

DING DING DING

Lets hear it guys!

Just my .02 - If you are serious about wanting to shoot many geese besides snows you are going to have to stay further north. Ducks - I think you can find good areas in all except maybe the SW and I could be wrong about that.
Boating and fishing - This just depends on what you are looking for - river - big lake - small lake - stream - and what type of fishing.
I know for the most part this was pretty much a non-answer but you will have to be more specific.

Best area for ducks

North MO has it all. Ducks, geese, deer, and not too far a drive to some decent crappie fishing.

I agree that NW and SE have the overall best waterfowl hunting. I am from SE and will eventually move back. I have lived in SW for 3 years now and there is excellent potential here especially if you buy your own land. The great thing is that it doesn't take much to pull the ducks and geese around here if you are around the right area. Farm ponds will even do the trick many times. The benefit about SW is you will have access to some of the best lakes in the country during the off season. Table Rock, Bull Shoals, Stockton, Truman, and Lake of the Ozarks are all in SW Mo. The turkey hunting is excellent as well.

NORTH , SOUTH , EAST OR WEST , MAKES NO DIFFERENCE . IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT OR WHO'S PC OF GROUND YOU ARE HUNTING AND WHERE THE DUCKS WANT TO BE .

Forest Park, St. Louis. Plenty of parking. Get tired of shooting ducks there is an area not far full of exotics, easy pickings. Almost like they are caged.

southeast is great, really any where semi close to the Mississippi river and on the Missouri river is pretty good quality hunting.

I'd say for Fishing with Table Rock,Taneycomo and Bullshoals that chain of lakes in the SW is hard to beat with Truman following !. I've duck hunted the SE and NW and now Central Missouri with the NW of the state being 90% of it . Still new to Central Missouri ,but its been the hardest duck hunting I've remembered and the North West the easiest . Havin't given the SW much of a chance though either though ; just a couple of end of season hunts not well planned or scouted.

I am partial to the Central/Eastern part of the state. Since my job requires me to be in STL, my hands are tied as to where I live but I have hunted all over the state. Being in the city and having a 45min to 1hr drive to the duck club off HWY 79 is hard to beat. Ted Shanks, Temps Clair, Columbia Bottoms, and BK Leach are all close by (these are some of the public hunting conservation areas). Eagles Bluff in Columbia isn't a bad drive either. Can't speak too much to the fishing, but with the MO and MS river being close by, as well as many other conservation areas and other small rivers my friends that fish never complain (too much that is  ). Not sure if you are more of a "rural" or "city slicker" type, but STL has a lot to offer. Great food, nice neighborhoods, solid entertainment options depending on what floats your boat, the Cardinals (BEST TEAM IN MLB!!!), hockey with the Blues, and Rams NFL football.

Good luck to you.
