I am partial to the Central/Eastern part of the state. Since my job requires me to be in STL, my hands are tied as to where I live but I have hunted all over the state. Being in the city and having a 45min to 1hr drive to the duck club off HWY 79 is hard to beat. Ted Shanks, Temps Clair, Columbia Bottoms, and BK Leach are all close by (these are some of the public hunting conservation areas). Eagles Bluff in Columbia isn't a bad drive either. Can't speak too much to the fishing, but with the MO and MS river being close by, as well as many other conservation areas and other small rivers my friends that fish never complain (too much that is
). Not sure if you are more of a "rural" or "city slicker" type, but STL has a lot to offer. Great food, nice neighborhoods, solid entertainment options depending on what floats your boat, the Cardinals (BEST TEAM IN MLB!!!), hockey with the Blues, and Rams NFL football.
Good luck to you.
