Who's Going Hunting This Weekend??

Postby Webfoot12 » Thu Sep 07, 2006 8:27 pm

Who's heading out for teal this weekend? I would have liked to have gone a later weekend but this is the only chance I'll get. We're going on a road trip. No water down this way.

I've got the fever for sure. It will be nice just getting out with the boys just as ate up as I am...And a dog that's way far gone.

Good luck everyone...Be safe....

Decoys are set and Mojo's charging as we speak.......
I'll start treating my wife as good as my dog when she starts fetching ducks.

Well how did everyone do? We had a blast! Probably the most teal I've ever seen. We had flights of 100 birds coming in. At first shooting light we had 4 groups buzzing the decoys. Two groups of 75-100 birds and two groups of 50 birds. It was a sight!!!! First flight that tried to land, I fired 3 shots and 3 dead birds! Mike killed 1 and I opted out of the next few flights to let him catch up. Total "hunting" time, 15-20 minutes. They were really reacting well to the whistle and we killed some fairly large birds. Biggest blue wing teal I've ever seen.

Hey, did you grab the blind bag with the shells when we left the truck?

I hunt in SE Missouri (but not a teal hunter). Just wondering if you were hunting the river or elsewhere.

What an opener!! There were teal everywhere. I did not have time to blow a whistle or a call nor did I need to. Four of us shot or limit in 25 minutes, (poor shooting). But we had fun. Too bad it was my only outing for teal this year.

Looking forward to Sept. 30th.

Yeah that sounds like the place I hunted huntmq1. Same place, but about half as many birds, which was still plenty though.

They got smart real quick.

Well, back at it this morning at a different place. One word comes to mind...........HORRID! :hammering:
I had three birds come in, got em, but thats all I saw the entire morning. One of them was a Green wing. Surprised me. Didn't think they would be heading Mexico way this early.

 Go out and find some birds man. I don't mean to sound rude, but really that's all it takes. Guys on here will help you with decoy spread questions, what calls to use, and other tactics, but we are not going to say go plant your ass at these gps coordinates and you'll kill teal. I'm going to start SCOUTING fields for geese for the early season this week and next and that's just part of the game.

Huntmq1, I also killed a GWT. Kinda surprised me when I went and picked it up.

I live 10 minutes from you and hunt public ground 30 minutes from here. It's no secret where to go. Go to Missouri Conservation's web site and search by county here in SW Missouri around where we live. Plenty of places to hunt. Good luck. No one was trying to be a jerk about it. It's just common sense that if your having really good luck on a certain public pond, you're not going to tell everyone about it. It's hard enough to find a good place to be at 0: dark thirty in the morning. Nothing worse than pulling up somewhere with high hopes and 5 trucks already in the parking area. Heck I don't even tell my friends where I'll be in the morning if the hunting is really good.
