Have you personally seen this? I'm not saying you're wrong, but it's the same storyline every year. "No food, no water, no ducks". Every year, it seems to be somewhat normal when killin time begins.
Not real sure, I've seen a lot of farmers planting in the last few weeks. I'm no psychic. I also didn't expect it to snow in May but it did. Hell, I don't know when the corn was planted and I don't know if we'll have a ton of rains in late July and into August. Was it last year that we had a couple of real good rains that essentially saved duck season?
yeah, dry as a bone and hotter than hell last year. and the corn we planted grew in those conditions. a lot of other clubs and fields i hunt had corn as well last year. wasn't the best corn in the world, but it was there. there were a few days of crucial rain last year as cliner mentioned.
not sure what is meant by "qd" from the OP?
i am no farmer, but i've heard that people have been planting. hopefully the weather holds up and farmers get a good crop. same for the duck clubs. it will be late as hell though and depending on the strain of ag corn it takes about what....120 days before maturing? that is November if conditions are right and it grows...most fields are flooded by then where i hunt. maybe some sweet corn with a 60-70 maturity. ive been told it exists...who knows
we still had a field full of water at our place last week. no corn this year.
we might broadcast some buckwheat and millet and hope for the best. we shot a good number of birds 2 years ago with nothing but moist soil, native plants, and smartweed.
We and most places around stl have planted this week. I'm sure the fastest growing corn out there is 90 day and must be in the ground by July 25ish around here and pray for a last week of oct frost. I think most places will be fine with short corn if they plant by next week but one big rainstorm or hurricane up thru here will destroy everything.
Wells rice in every pond I have access to with jap millet 40ft up the banks. I will see what can scratch up. as long as i get to have whistling wings overhead a few times this year I will be a happy hunter.
Its not like you need 250 bushel an acre corn to feed the ducks. And if not the ducks still have to migrate south. That sure would suck to have to actually put miles on a truck scouting.

 Somebody throws it out there every year. :lol3: :lol3: :lol3: Here it is July and everyone should be able to see that by November there will be nothing a duck needs anywhere in North America. They might as well just go ahead and cancel the season now!
Damn, that quote couldn't look worse when out of context. It makes it look like I'm the one saying that. I'm saying that every year, it's the same posts about something going wrong.

Sorry there Cliner , I know it wasn't you saying it and I was just restating what you were sayin, every year there are always plenty of naysayers throwing out the gloom and doom predictions. I honestly believe that some say it thinking it will cause others to not hunt thus leaving more ducks for them  . Kind of like the reports you will see here all season long on the CAs, "Nope, no ducks there! Don't waste your time!" Then you call the area they are reporting on and they have a 3 or 4 bird per hunter average :fingerhead:. To me it gets really humorous when some can be having a "dream season" and others will be saying how it is the worst year ever.
I have pulled soil samples for little river,os ,tmp and a couple of other ca's in semo .They always plant the corn for ducks in july ,and ealy august.Guess what the corn ALWAYS GROWS.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
