Is anyone else as anxious as I am

Postby goosetalk » Tue Oct 24, 2006 11:02 am

North zone opens Sat. The weather will be ok, wish the Wed. and Thurs. forcast would happen on the weekend. I'm finding pretty hard to consentrate in class, and I'm in St. Louis so I can't just go to the club to ease my pain by watching ducks. I don't know what I would do without this site, keeps me from goin insane, since I'm surrounded by city folk.

I'm new to this site so here's my introduction:
I've been hunting for 25 years and actually had my first bow killed deer before I killed one with a gun. But I just started waterfowl hunting at the end of last year's season and it seriously 'got into my blood' as they say.

After a long off season waiting, buying equipment(including a new gun), practicing my calling, and training my new lab puppy(like I said, it's in my blood), to say that I'm anxious would be a serious understatement.

Last year I didn't start hunting until the end of December and I missed most of the good hunting. The few times I went we never really even decoyed any birds, but it was still a good time. So I'm REALLY looking forward to fresh ducks and an opening weekend. Only problem is that it's so dry here in central MO that we're not seeing many ducks yet.

I hope to learn a lot from you good men(and women) on this site.

Good Luck to All

I won't get out opening weekend, because I don't have any private ground in the North Zone to hunt and I really don't feel like standing in a 150 person line at Skanks. I'll definitely be hunting the 3rd 4th and 5th though.

Oh yeah, I drove through the bottoms tonight and there were thousands flying right around 5pm. Absolutely awesome.

You know there are other places to go besides MDC draw areas, look into some smaller conservation lands that allow duck hunting, but don't host a draw. They can be rewarding (after scouting ...) especially on opening day and flight days.

But yeah I'm pretty much driving my roommates crazy with talking about ducks and blowing the calls. only ... 3.25 more days!!!! I feel like a 2nd grader waiting for Xmas. :help:

I see you are from St. Chuck. You ever hunt Marais Temps Claire. I had a few good hunts there last year, but its usually a crap shoot.

I'm excited, as I am now cleared to shoot. However, I will be taking one of my buddy's twin boys out for youth season on Sat. before going to our DU dinner that night. Hopefully they will both tag out and I can go duck hunting on Sunday.

I've never had a chance to go out there. I usually go to Ted Shanks when I'm in St. Charles and now my buddy has a boat with a blind, so we'll probably be hunting the river a lot. My dad has a reservation for Temps on the middle zone opening Monday, so that will tell me if it's worth my time or not. But, for the main part of the season I'm at school, which is in Fulton, so I'll be at Eagle Bluffs more often that not. At least until Christmas break.

Jeez, I really can't wait. This is gonna be a long 24 hours. :help: I'm gonna try to hunt Mark Twain Lake. I've only been up there duck hunting once ... so it might be another one of those days that you wished you could do over. It'll still be fun though.

Yeah, but since you're going to kill your limit, you won't have anything to do anyways.
