My son shot his first ducks this morning. The very first one was a mallard drake w/ 2 curls. I couldn't be any prouder.

He is definitly hooked. He says it's unfair that youth season is just 2 days long. I keep trying to tell him that he can hunt with me after middle zone opens, but he says it's just not the same. We had ducks on us all morning. GWT,BWT,Gads,Mallards,Woodies and one shoveler. I'd say there were probably 45+ birds I called into range. 2 birds went down. He shoots better than I do.LOL My calling was superb this morning....next weekend's opener it will suck. I had the dekes set up perfect....all the ducks funneled right where I wanted them to.......next weekend they won't. It's all good though, If I don't shoot a duck all season, it will still be the best season I've ever had!!!

My son got in trouble today in art class for drawing a picture of his hunt because there was a gun in it. Needless to say, I will be paying a visit to the school to have a sit down with his teacher. It has been proven that kids that are brought up hunting and fishing are less likely to be involved with drugs and crime. What I really want to know is how a picture of a shotgun is going to hurt anybody.

Wow, isn't it great that kids now can't even be proud of what they like to do, especially when it is such a good clean sport.

i am yet to decide how these xo called teachers get their ideas messed up. my kids grew up hunting and fishing,,,, my oldest tooka mounted bird to school and was sent home because it was "animal cruelety". we try to teach our kids to be aware of the outdoors and to enjoy it and the teachers find ways to tell them it wrong,
the duck was a buffelhead he had shoot the previous season.
