Four Rivers

Postby Zoo Guy » Wed Nov 06, 2013 2:36 pm

I am prepared for anyone who wants to rip me a new one for this, but here goes. I went down to Four Rivers a few weeks ago and did some looking around, but it seems that things have changed significantly there recently. Anyone be willing to let me know how the water levels are? The mdc site says open units are boatable, but is that just boat lanes, or are they flooded fully for layouts etc? I have done my scouting, but things have changed so fast its hard to keep up. Any info would be appreciated. Have a good season all.

I was thinking the same thing! i was down 2 weekends before season. only 1 pool had enough water for sneak boats. some of the boat lanes were bone dry. maybe they can pump 3 feet of water in 2 weeks? dunno but I would think it would still be mostly boat lanes with a little on the sides at this point. maybe I'm wrong and they have the best pump set up in the state.

I scouted it early and there wasn't much for food anywhere.

I've got nothing against some hiking, thanks for all the info. Looks like they picked up some birds this week. Without food, not sure they will stick around, but I may have to go see.

My buddy was down there this morning and said that most all the birds are leaving the area to feed elsewhere and said good luck hiding a big boat and blind in there he said layout boat is your only chance

food and water problems aside. The biggest issue is there is ZERO cover out there due to the flood. Sneak boat is the only option but even then your still talking about open water everywhere. They are holding some ducks though and it looks like some creative people where able to scratch out some decent numbers in the draw areas though!

I went and scouted ol 4 Rivers before teal season. It was looking pretty bare bones. I think the flood hit it and Schell pretty hard. I know for a fact that Schell lost the majority of their planted food as a result. Gonna be a slow year in Mid-Zone duck parks.

Was just down there yesterday... Water was kind of there in boat lanes, but not nearly what they made it seem like on the MDC website.

No cover or food whatsoever. It's a shame this is normally my go to spot, unfortunately the flood seems to have done its damage.

Thanks for the info guys. Noticed that they aren't even filling up all their draw spots. Open units look any better or worse? It is my go to as well, hope to get a couple birds from there this season.

Got a 2 year old and a new house that needs a lot of work, barely going to have time to hunt, much less another 5 hour round trip down there. Just trying to plan ahead, I have my own spots. Thanks for all the help guys.

She's just about at the stage where I think she could be entertained doing that, next season for sure.
