From Pintails to Mallards, share your Montana duck hunting stories here in the land of the Big Sky country.
Following some of the other threads, its shocking to see all the people that don't hunt with a dog. Seems to me like it would really limit your places to hunt, like rivers.
So, yes or no, and why.

I think there are a world of good reasons to hunt with a dog. First is the conservation aspect. With a well trained retriever you loose very few birds, if any at all. Cripples or birds that fall in heavy cover are frequently lost by those hunting without dogs. Second is the companionship offered by "Man's best friend". I simply can't imagine hunting without my buddy. I would add one thing to this post. I know many people simply don't have the living arragments or finances availble to own a dog. I was in that position at one point in my life so I can relate. To those in that position I say, save your pennys and dimes because a retriever is one of the best investments a waterfowler can make.
