HOW TO ORDER A RIFLE?

Postby slepe67 » Mon Mar 13, 2006 5:05 pm

I am stationed in FL, and am a MT native, born and bred. I want to order a Remington 700 LSS, Mountain Rifle, Ultra Mag in 7mm. Problem is, down here in FL, they won't order for you, like they used to in Great Falls (Scheels). Anyone recommend anyone? I'm at a loss right now. Thanks in advance. J

My understanding is you need to find a gun dealer to have the gun shipped to...if you tried a bunch of people and they wont let you maybe theres a law or something, try calling your local police station and ask them exactly what you have to do to get one shipped or maybe keep an eye open at gun shows...good luck

Actually, I was wondering how a guy can just "order" a rifle that I want, most gun shops down here cater to close range shooting only. not sure about the laws

I believe you have to have it shipped to a gun shop so they can do the background checks and all that....but even if they deal with close range, I would think that they could special order a rifle....the websites I looked at for gun dealers on the www said they had to be shipped to a dealer...

You can try gunbroker.com. They have everything. You will need to have it shipped to a FFL holder though. Sometimes there are some good deals on there.

just a word of caution about that particular round. The 7 RUM has very limited off the shelf ammo available to it. Even Remington 140 Core-Lokts are over $30 a box. There are currently only two loads available OTC the 140 grain and 175 grain.

I can order specialty loads from Conley but for 160 grain Swift A Frames they are almost $54.00 a box.

I was looking at ballistics a few days ago, and I think the 7mm Mag will work just fine. Also, you think a 22" barrel makes THAT much of a difference. I REALLY want to get the Rem 700 Mountain Rifle LSS in 7mm. By all means, let me know what you think, I appreciate it. .....Then, the dude tried to sell me a Tikka...

Just so you understand I own a 7 RUM and love it. My caution is that you need to understand currently the ammo is expensive and often hard to find. Scheels in Great Falls only had two box when I was in there.

If you can absorb the recoil then the Mountain rifle is fine. I have experimented with a few round and to get the maximum performance I believe you need to go with at least a 160 grain premium bullet.

Look at the bullet drop all the way out to 400 yds. Pretty incredible performance.

If you got the $$$$ for a Tikka go for it.

get yourself an FFL. Then the rifle can be shipped straight to your home. And you can offer the same service to others for a 5% service fee.
Lord......let me be as good a hunter as my dog thinks I am....amen

doesnt cabelas have an online gun store?? If I were going with a gun in that caliber I would look at the 300 wssm. Good luck finding the gun you want and let us know how it turns out.

just for FYI, after I posted this, I ordered it thru Walmart of all places. And it was cheaper than Cabelas and Bass Pro, to name a few...
