Hit the Jefferson river this am

Postby phutch30 » Mon Dec 19, 2011 10:24 am

Wow! you just never know what to expect with a cold front moving in. Had a flock of these (what ever they are) ducks dump into the decoys so I shot them. I didnt know what they were or how many I could shoot so I stopped at 3.

Are they any good to eat?

Glad to see you guys are getting into some sea ducks.
will warn you, they taste terrible, Shot a couple scoters out west. Knew it was all bad when I tried pulling the skin off the breast and the duck near tore in half. Glad to say I shot some but not worth eating. fun to hunt as the big birds come flying in on the deck usually.
did they drop easily. We had one that must have been wearing kevlar. Dropped and then was shot while wounded over four times before it stopped swimming. brought it to the blind thinking it was dead to only have it 10 minutes later try to walk away. dumb thing wouldn't die.
Would be fun to see some on the "jefferson" did see a pair of harlequins on my property a couple years ago. though it was during spring migration. only drake I ever saw in MT see the hens fishing wilderness rivers. nearest thing I have seen to sea ducks.

Wait I am confused, you say you shot them this morning, then posted the pics at ten a.m., yet the pics are in the dark. Did you shoot them before legal shooting time or what? I believe those are old hen mallards by the way.
I'm the type of guy who "cups" his hand over his butt, farts, and dishes it out like a soup kitchen.

It's called sarcasm :help:

Another example of sarcasm would be if I said something like: "hey GThomp, you are really smart!" :lol3: :hi: :fingerhead:
