From Pintails to Mallards, share your Montana duck hunting stories here in the land of the Big Sky country.
Did a little experiment today that I eluded to in PTRoofer's post.
Brief recap: had to work & couldn't drag my trailer so I went minimalist style in 1 spinner, 1 8 month old lab & 1 power hunter lay-out blind that folds neatly into a backpack.
Results: 7 greenheads in 1.5 hours (130pm to 3PM). I had to scare the birds off the field in my rig & set up quickly. There were roughly 200-300 mallards working. Lots of fun, dog did great on his 3rd real field hunt, REALLY fat gheads & my shooting was AWFUL! Bottom line is if you are where they want to be it doesnt matter what you have out there.

That's very prophetic Pete. I had no idea that if you found a field
with a few hundred birds in it, that it would be a good place to hunt.
Probably could have been coyotes there and still limited out. Might have
taken you an extra 20 minutes though.
