Early season ND goose hunt

Postby RNT~DuckCaller » Tue Jun 18, 2013 6:27 am

Just wondering if anyone has tried it and if it was worth the trip. Not asking for any information on locations.

Hunted the august season before SD opened theirs. Shot plenty of geese, only saw one other spread, and we were in a populated county. If you go bring bug spray and plenty of coolers to store birds.

Did you already know where you were going to hunt before you got there or did you scout and figure that out once you arrived? I would be completely free lance on this and just wondering if this is a normal situation there for that time of year. Thanks for your input.

We had a general area of where we intended to start scouting, then just arrived a day early and put on the miles.

There appears to be a good hatch of birds this year. However in much of the state there was only about half of the crop planted and most was planted very late. This could make early season very interesting as there will be very little harvested in August. It could be great if you can find harvested fields as the birds will really key in on them, but competition for these spots will be at a premium.

The last few years the early season hunters have come out of the woodwork so theres alot more hunters out there competing for the same pockets of birds. But its ND so theres always a place to hunt if you are willing to put on the miles.

Im an ND'er. PM me and I can probably help you out with any other info.
