Distances aren't specified in the Stream Access Law. I can't imagine any excuse for being any closer than the quarter mile required on state lands. As you'll recall, a bill was proposed in the legislature in the past two years to allow landowners to establish no shooting zones below the HW mark on their property. Fortunately, it was defeated. However, there is NO
need to give waterfront landowners any ammo (literally and figuratively) that would threaten the stream access law. I've come to appreciate it more and more as I work in Wyoming and Colorado where it's illegal to so much as drop an anchor from your boat making mile after mile of streams inaccessible to the wader.
