We shoot most between 30 and 40 yards. We don't group shoot if they're further than 45. There are two in our group though, myself included, who feel we shoot ethically at further distances. We are both very good shots and use shell, gun, and load combinations that can effectively harvest birds at ranges beyond 45 yards. If we have a group coming into the decoys he and I tend to let everyone else shoot first and then we gun down any wounded birds or ones that are leaving the scene that the others probably wouldn't be able to drop.
