Trip Back

Postby DuckSlyer16 » Mon Dec 22, 2008 7:06 pm

Hello, Me and my dad are going back to your fine state after Christmas... WE will be hunting near Genoa, Nebraska... Probley Columbus around there and on the Platte... later on we are going back to Ord, Nebraska and the Cedar River...

My question... Is the Platte still open? I am expecting the Cedar to be open...
last year we hunted the Platte Christmas eve and saw lots of ducks.. just wasn't on the X... so I am hoping that we will see the same amount of ducks as last year...

Any body here hunt around Columbus? Most of my family hunts/lives around there so I am wondering if you know em... OR genoa.. family there also...

 I dont think there is too much open water anywhere. It hasent been above freezing here for a couple of weeks. Spots that I have seen of the Platte were solid.

Good timing still have birds in the area.

Especially geese.

Find a good sandbar that goes way out that is where they are resting.
Most of the ducks around here are using the sandpit and the MO river.

I am done until the 26th when I leave for arkansas for 5 days.

Good luk

Still holding birds south of omaha and bellevue

Geese is your target unless you can find a big swath of mallards the ones I was chasing bugged out with the last front.

Still have couple thousand geese sitting on the sandpits here.

Don't forget that other river out in that area too. The powerplant was gobbling up all the water when I was out there a month ago so the level was low but we did see birds flying it.

Plat has been flow slush ice around the omaha area. I havn't been out on it but if i were it would be full bodies and maybe a handfull of floaters in an attempt to find some clear water.

there is no open water on the platte. It was -22 yesterday so it is locked up. Only open water is on some warm water slough's.

Find a good Corn field along the river their.

Shot two geese and 4 greenheads last night in the cornfield next to the river here.

More birds moved back into the area
