Where the heck is my Hevi-shot?

Postby Sagebrush » Mon Nov 21, 2005 1:21 am

I ordered the stuff back in Oct 28th! I'm not going crazy like I did with loading steel, this time I will try just one size first! Since # 5 is the biggest that will work in a loader properly, thats what I got, sound good?
They have a 1 1/4oz load @ 1450fps but being an old steel freak, I want to check out the 1 1/8oz load @ 1575fps also !! Heck, they didn't have lead loads that fast even in the good old days !!! Back in '78 the best Fac. job I had was @ 1330fps !! This should be "real interresting" .
Will keep all you guys posted with ALL the facts when I get er done!!
Mr Ed...I mean Sage....( the old fart ).........(open, open, open ) ha ha.

Postby Sagebrush » Mon Nov 21, 2005 1:29 pm

I got the Reloading Specialties Inc H/S vol. 3, from Bucksrun sports for $10.00.
It has some good looking loads. I want to try 1 1/8 @ 1575fps but goosehunter; who shoots HS said I might have trouble with loads over 1400fps ? We will see whats up.
(Mon. 11:25, UPS just dropped off my HS) C U later...Lost of work to do ..... Hi ho , hi ho & off ot work we go...La La La.... :hammering: :hammering: :salude: :salude:

HS test loads

Postby Sagebrush » Mon Nov 21, 2005 11:15 pm

First off; the Reloading Specalties guys have their head up their ass !! :pissed:
They call for SAM1 wads...with 1 or two felt spacers , under & over the shot.
The Sam1 wad holds 663grs of #5 HS. 556grs c/o 1 felt. so 547grs needs two felt, not just one like the manual states, for a correct crimp!
ALL LOADS had a sunken crimp, which needed candle wax to fix. Even the Win 1 1/8oz load with a felt under & over the HS shot , "SANK"! :pissed:

My #5 test loads Mod choke, 50yds at rifle range , with 10mph wind .

Hull wad Grs 13" x 30" Pattern c/o 3 shot ave.
WinAA sonic 28 1 felt 492 22 x 70 52%
G medal sam 1 2 felt 547 31 x 105 68%
G medal sonic 28 1 felt 547 40 x 103 72%
G medal sam 1 1 felt 570 24 x 83 52%

I wanted tighter patterns, but I did get one @ 72% for my 1st try.
I also think the 570gr load is for #2 HS or BIGGER.... however this manual does not say what size shot to use, like the STEEL manual.
This company is really getting lazy on putting out good data !!!
:pissed: (Note: I used TUWSBL28 wads (1oz) for the 72% pattern)

Later boys & girls .....Sage

This is my final on HS. I like steel, it works for me. However, if you don't want to miss or reach out an knock a shovler ass over tea kettle at 65 yards, try # 5 HS! The only bad thing , is the increrase of blood clots in the meat vs Steel. (increase of energy?)
I only shot the spoony to see if the manual was half way correct on its data!! I normally wait till 55 yards with HS. ...SAGE
