Truckee River Scouting Update

Postby NVDuckHunter76 » Tue Sep 11, 2012 1:46 pm

Spent the night at my in-laws ranch last night just outside of Wadsworth, along the Truckee. I have never seen the water level this low. Walked the 150 yard stretch they own and it was all pretty much the same story. Very few birds flying at daybreak. This time last year was a completely different story. PRAY FOR RAIN!!!!!

Have you seen the Carson River?? A few puddles here and there.
Not good...even worse next year if we do not get a big winter.

Haven't seen it this year, but I can only imagine. Little rain dance is in order.

Its soooo dry, that the farmers coming back in from the corn fields , are hauling "Pop Corn"!

Not looking good this season..........for D&G. Might have to walk the hills for white meat?

Bummer.

on a positive, according to DU, I believe this year has the highest estimated duck numbers in the past 50yrs .........Edit: "for the second year in a row, the US fish and wildlife service has reported record numbers of breeding birds, with a total pop count tallying 48.6 mil this past spring, despite widespread drought" ---Outdoor Life magazine.

Whats weird though is that ( I live in Tahoe and work on the lake everyday) I have not seen yet the large number of coots that normally proceed the opening of the season. They normally arrive about a month before the opener and I have yet to see them.....

Haven't been scouting yet but noticed the access across the tracks just east of Derby Dam has been blocked off. You can't park under the big cottonwood tree anymore, at least from that direction.
