Opener Almost Here! Where You Going??

Postby DuckManWest » Thu Oct 04, 2012 9:29 am

Not much activity on here! Everyone must be out hunting.
Cool weather coming next week! :clapping: Getting the last minute stuff together for the Mason trip. Heading out Tuesday.
Who is going where?? I would assume those heading out have there opening locations picked out by now!
Good luck and good hunting!!

I can't wait, I leave for a quick deer hunt on Sunday hopefully back by Thursday download the deer gear and pick up the duck stuff and off to Stillwater. Depending how the opener goes at Stillwater maybe stay there or head back home to hit some local spots.

I hear ya on the rat race! It is so nice and peaceful out there through the week. Then Friday morning arrives........LOOK OUT!!
I am just glad it's about to start again. Got a new pup a while back. Lost both of my older Labs in the last year. It will be nice to have a 4 legged buddy with me again!

Duckman I hunt near you guys, and the migration has been good on californias side. Lots of mallards, teal and wigeon. The resident geese over here had a pretty decent brood this past year
Give a man a duck... Feed him for a day... Teach him to fowl hunt... Feed him for a lifetime...Teach him in your spot... Learn to hunt a different spot....

I'll be at mason too. Heard there isn't a lot of water out there so spots in mason may be a little more crowded than normal.

Just got back from Alaska. Heading to Canada Saturday. Have a fun opener! This will be my 12th duck season in NV and have only enjoyed 3 openers here.

Here are some pics from the recent Alaska trip.

Thanks guys!
Duckmanwest I appreciate the thoughts no trophy hunting this year it was a second draw scramble after time constraints on a bow elk tag didn't work out. Hopefully straight shooting and a freezer filler.
Chris I thought you were headed south for a TX deer hunt???
I have been scouting Stillwater not a lot of water but a few birds and I am prepared for the crap show and hopefully decent shoot with a few tricks later in the morning. Don't want to blow my very limited local spots in Gardnerville as hopefully birds will dump in after getting hammered across the region! Hoping everyone hammers them and praying for any kind of weather!
MorningFlight sorry things have been crazy and didn't catch you last week went to build a new blind and ran into some very nice browns one of them caught by my buddy one of the possible biggest on E. fork Walker NV since the 70's but all were released to swim another day. We checked local water records and even with some under estimates it was or would be close to the last largest fish on record by NDOW since 1970! I will tell you one thing I am going to put the cast and blast into effect.
Good look to everyone I'm just excited to get out and have fun birds or no birds

Hey Chris I got some decent info on that area but due to the burns it has made everything even the bears a little tougher. You should hit it right during the rut.
The darker brown my buddy caught we almost thought was a carp but after watching it swim we new it was a trout and fishing started but we did manage to get the blind done in between fishing sessions.
Checked out the fields with YardGoose and holy smokes the geese and ducks in the evening look like the cover of a DU mag or opening day in Canada.
