Buddy shot it saying hen teal wigeon cross what are your thought?

from the picture I'd say widgeon due to the beak/legs not sure of the color of speculum.......

Looks like a hen widgeon to me looks like black speculum small patch white says hen and I can see a bit of brown under the wing, the bill looks widgeon too. What makes him think a cross?

I have no idea what made him think that I thought widgeon too figured I would post it just to see what anyone else may have thought!

It's a girl I know she shot it at a refuge in CA and one of her biologist friends thought it was some hybrid. Figured I would ask the real pros!

Hybrid wigeon/ pintail yes not a wigeon only the wing patch is of a pintail...Wigeon has a solid white on its wings juvy or adult... You can google lehman guide for the pintail and see that. check them both out either way pretty good duck...
