Lets get Washoe Lake Back!!

Postby snipe hunter » Mon Jan 28, 2013 3:01 pm

Hey Guys,
My Name is Justin iam the Nevada Field Rep for Tanglefree Waterfowl and there is a issue that I believe as hunters we all need to address.
Iam putting a petition to restore the regulation for Washoe lake back to the normal 3 days a week to hunt.
I have contacted the biolgist for NDOW in reno office to address the issue and the purpose for Washoe Lake to be hunted 7 days a week was to control the local Canadian Geese population, but in turn what it has created with the high hunting pressure at 7 days a week is pushed the geese into the city creating more problems with complaints from the local residents and lowering the harvesting rate for Canadian Geese at Washoe lake. As hunters this issue needs to address to the commision and have it restored, I will be setting up a meet and greet within the month of Feb to sign the petition also i will be giving away Tanglefree Waterfowl products.....If anyone is intrested please contact me by PM with your name and number and i will contact eveyone to set up a time....Thanks guys I hope we all can work together to get back our lake.

I'm not a Washoe Lake hunter, but if you want to control local geese allow hunters to hunt golf courses and those UNR fields. Back east they allow this, so why not here. An early 5 day September goose season would be awesome.

I know of a handful of guys That will sign, maybe we could circulate it between some people in case guys can't get out to a meet and greet, I live in washoe and have noticed a big decline in # of honkers using the public area not so much ducks, I would rather trade days for quality hunts plenty of other places to hunt, will PM ya

Definetely need to get Washoe back to where it used to be. Drove by yesterday afternoon and there were tons of geese and ducks all along the west shore of the lake. Just goes to show what a little rest and non-hunting pressure will do.

Maybe they out to start a late honker hunt in Feb. like they do in other states to put a dent in the local pop., seems to be when the biggest #'s are here.

I have hunted here for the last 20 years.Too much pressure since the 7 day hunt started. We need to be back to 3 day a week hunting!
Stillwater can handle 7 day hunting. Washoe is too small for that. The petition idea is good, but it will take more than a few of us to sign. Maybe putting a few petitions in different locations might help.

I'd be in with that. I haven't hunted Washoe for several years, either because of low water levels or just over hunting. I know it was better when it was three days per week.

As much research as i have done on this problem.....there are guys on the commission that i have found out hunt Washoe and are also on board for this to change. So i know alot of us want a early or late honker season as well, Iam working on that as well guys i have been in contact with the biologists and they are in agreement as well its just getting the commission to go for it. Just keep in mind one battle at a time! If anyone has any questions contact me direct 775.527.8291
