New Mount- Drake Scoter- UPDATED

Postby JustinNH » Sun Aug 28, 2011 6:31 pm

So I made use of a crappy day and finished my scoter mount.
The base is made by me as well. I made a paper mache rock, put plaster over it and painted it then added it to a piece of wood, made mud with glue and added a few mussel shells and a frame.

Between that, painting the bill, injecting and painting the feet, fleshing, washing, drying, and mounting... over 10 hours. Not getting quicker, but I think it came out a lot better than my first. Hopefully the third comes out even better!

Very fresh and still drying, so any pointers are welcome before it dries.

I cannot find my digital camera, so my phone had to do...

Looks great to me. That mud sure looks real. Like the way it has the cracks in it too. Nice job.

Thank you both!

I am happy with it for my second duck mount. I won't be ashamed to put it in my living room (permission already granted from my wife haha).

Yeah... the cracks in the mud were not intentional, but I liked the way it came out so i did not fix it.

I made an adjustment of the neck per the guys on the taxidermy forum, so here is an updated pic of it all dried and in place, as well as my mink (my first small mammal, besides a squirrel that came out like crap 3 or 4 years ago).
