history of bird hunting on the Great Bay

Postby historian » Wed Mar 14, 2012 6:09 am

Hello, I am writing a report about the history of a group of cabins on the Great Bay that were used for bird hunting, and would appreciate any information that is out there regarding the history of hunting on the Great Bay, particularly in the early 20th century.
Thanks!

Try and get intouch with **** Pinney I think He lives in Newington. He has been writing articles about Hunting & Fishing the Bay for years.

Good luck

Also, contact the local historical society's in the towns surrounding Great Bay. I would bet that they would have information on duck camps, market gunning, and the like around the Bay. There are a few pages on shooting stands around Great Bay in John C. Phillips book titled "Shooting Stands of Eastern Massachusetts."
A serious reduction in the population of black ducks would mean the end of waterfowl hunting for the majority of the New England sportsmen.
