What is everyone up to?

Anyone doing anything exciting this summer?

Any prep for next season?

I have been doing a lot of metal detecting, some taxidermy prep work, and some training with Jazz (although not as much as I should be... need to step that up a bit now that the water is nice and warm).

Training Ice on a reglar basis, carving decoys and trying to get out for a little fishing here and there:

That is a hell of a striper Ray, any measurements?

I'm ready to go down to the flats for some schoolies on ultra light/ medium bass rods. Biggest I have landed was only 32" but was a nice fight on 6lb test line. Didn't go out much last year, but it is always fun.

Justin, The striper was a little over 40". Did not take a real measurement, just snapped a quick pic and released her to fight another day. We were into fish like this all weekend.

I have been busy with a diver spread-4 dozen-buffies,bluebills,ringers and goldeneyes along with some puddlers-mallards, blacks and widgeon. I have also been busy with my winter project. When I started this thread, my brother had given me a 1964 16' Starcraft Seamist Bowrider. The plan was to remove the bow and make it more fishing and duckhunting friendly. After ripping the seats out and the dashboard and steering system, I installed a new piece of plywood over a floor that was punky in a spot. I thought I had it dried out, WRONG! Here is what she looked like to begin with.
Image
Image
After installing the plywood over the punky floor, I decided to make a split bench in the bow to keep the boat from "tacoing".
Image
After about three months of no heat in the garage, the weather warmed up for me to get back to work. While laying out the Storage locker and back seat area, I noticed the new plywood starting to delaminate. I figured if I am going to do it right, I might as well tear out the old floor and install a entirely new one. Lets just say I am glad I did. The old floor was rotted straight thru and there was about 25 gallons of water trapped under the floor. The factory foam under the floor was totally saturated and acting like a dam, not allowing the water to make it to the drain plug. Everything torn out, I cut new foam(closed cell) to put under the floor, and new Advantech plywood. I sealed the edges and both sides with epoxy to prevent rotting.

I then framed the storage locker and back seat area. I went to my local sheetmetal shop and they bent me some aluminum to enclose them. Got it all put together and in place. I then used 7 1/2" of rigid insulation and a stringer to make the step up casting deck in the front. I used the old aluminum bow that I removed for the floor over the foam.

After this, we moved the boat outside and tipped it over. I scuffed it all down and primed the sides and installed Coat-It on the bottom for protection. When that dried we painted our Parker Paint on it.

Thats it so far-stay tuned for more updates. I pick up my new Mercury 20 hp four stroke on June 9th.

Nice Ray, that is a respectable fish 99% of the time keepers get let back from me. Sometime I do enjoy them on the grill or in the oven though!

Aaron- That is fantastic work! Thanks for sharing the process. Should do well!!

Rise and Shine- Good luck at the tests. I watched you (I think) at an expo and it was great to watch!

Take care everyone, have a good long weekend

Thanks Justin! Here's some of this weekends work. After getting the outside painted, I got the boat on the new trailer. Primed all of the storage areas and sprayed them. Before the painting I got the lids and seats cut out and dry fit. While the inside was drying I sealed and painted the lids and seats. Once everything was dry I put another coat of epoxy sealing paint on the floor and sprinkled sand on it. When that was dry it got another coat. Then it was on to the electrical work. All new wiring run for navigational lights, anchor light, bilge pump, auxillery outlet for spotlight and fishfinder/gps. I then installed the swivel seats. Whew! Long weekend-ready to pick my new motor up.

When you have shot one bird flying you have shot all birds flying. They are all different and they fly in different ways but the sensation is the same and the last one is as good as the first.

Nice! That is something I would like to do sometime. No rush, but on my list.

I like catching the carp on ultra light rods and 6 lb test. Had a few rival stripers for a good fight.
