We hit a field this morning that the woodies had been hitting early along with mallards and geese. However, the birds didn't want to cooperate this morning. About 8 am we decided to pick up. I said lets give it a few. Three birds came over the trees and started to bank into the decoys. Mallards! On the second pass they were cupped to land, four shots rang out and three mallards took a dirt nap. Was very pleased with my little yellow lab, Belle's retrieves. We picked up and then went pheasant hunting-no dice. We decided to try and find some birds jump shooting. We found some woodies and jumped them. I shot a double as they tried to flee. Ended the afternoon with a drake mallard and two drake woodies. The mallard and one of the woodies hadn't colored up yet. Headed back out this evening.
