Or rather anyone still around? :lol3:

Haven't been fishing, but metal detecting has been good.

I've been out fishing a few times. Getting ready for turkey next week. Haven't gotten out with my detector yet this year but I am
looking forward to pulling out the gold pans and doing some prospecting. Some friends of mine have been hitting almost a gram a day up north.

Wow, that is real good. Ive had a few days like that when I used to do it 5 or 6 years ago and was always happy with that, but most days we ended with less

Good luck for turkey hunting

All of the forums on here have been slow as of late.

As I write this my Lab is having pups in the whelping box beside me. Fishing will have to wait.
Preserve game, use a well trained retriever.

Justin, very cool find with the metal detector. That is something Ive thought about getting into. How much does a decent metal detector run?

Also, gold panning looks like fun. Ive watched a lot of Gold Fever in the past. Good show
I would rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

That would be HR Rise and Shine's Loosey Goosey (Lucy).

7,400 people in 5 hours this year at Discover Wild NH Day at F & G. It was crazy busy. I"ll be back for the National Hunting & Fishing Day Expo in the fall.
I would like to point out my "ugly" Chessie worked all day for the kids and didn't bite anyone. Just sayin'...

A good low end one is $200-250 and a good overall one would be $600-$1000+.

Paid for both of mine last year just in gold, less my two best rings that I did not sell. I keep/collect the old coins and colonial relics.

Certainly a good time

very cool....that is exactly the sort of thing i was considering, finding old colonial items. i love old things. you walk around in the woods and see old old stone walls and foundations etc all the time and there MUST be old relics around waiting to be found. i heard of somebody finding an old musket in concord near a place i ice fish at. what else have you found?

Here is my first month of 2013.

One pic is mostly buttons. Pewter, brass large, 3x tombacs are all 1700's. Two small gilt buttons are early 1800s. Also 3x 1800's suspender buckles, a real old pinfire 12 ga shell, and some other small relics.

The second pic is some coins. 2x colonial coins (KGII mid 1700's, and I think a Connecticut state coin, late 1700's) seated dime, mercury dime and 2 buffalo nickles . 10 or so wheat pennies not pictured

Third is the larger relics, less a real nice bell and medicine bottle. Silver plated bridal rosette, 2 pieces of Britannia alloy handles, nice old skeleton key, 2 musket balls, and a few others.

Last is a rarer colonial cufflink button made of silver. Not too common to find cufflink pieces, never mind silver ones.

Thats awesome! First time on the site in months and literally my son and I just got back from his first time out with his metal detector this morning. He found a nail, a nickle, and two pieces of torn sheet metal. I found an old glass bottle (just happened to hit it while digging). :lol3:

We'll keep trying I guess.

That is great! Took me a bit to start getting to the good stuff myself, but it is a great time.

Since I posted these pics, I have run out of room in several display cases. Had a pretty good year for only my second year into it.

I'd recommend checking out: http://www.nhmetaldetectingforum.com/index.php
I help with that site as well. Mostly NH, but people from all over New England and the US/Canada. Lots to read there.

I'd be happy to personally help with any questions as well, just PM me here or there.

What kind of detector are the two of you using?

I have no idea, he got it as a gift from my mother in law. Its just a really cheap toy thing, but I am surprised at how well it works. It picked up that nail that looks like an old rusty roofing nail and it was about 6" underground, maybe 3/4" long. Pretty impressive.

it is a great hobby to get into and is remarkably similar to hunting when you really get into it and finding colonial spots. From looking at old maps/google earth to driving around and scouting spots in certain parts of the season, etc
