So Far...

Postby Rise and Shine Retrievers » Sat Oct 05, 2013 4:48 pm

Anybody else been hunting...
I managaed a limit of ducks by noon on opening day. I had to work for them. Day 2, 3 ducks and a banded goose on a morning hunt. This morning, lots of Woodies, but just one in the bag.

Someone PM me about posting pics :help:

Nice work and xongrats on the band. What's your question on pics? Below where you type the post there is a tab that says upload attachment.click choose file... It will pop up a screen where you find the picture on your computer and select the file then click 'add the file' . Some people upload them to external sites and link them but that's extra work.

The federal gov't is closed, I can't get any info on the banded goose.

Thanks for the picture info. Hopefully I'll have a great season with plenty on pics to post.

Nice look'n pup.

I've only chased ducks once....ran out for a quick jump shoot. It was high tide so I mostly intended to give the dog some exercise but we were able to sneak up on one flock of teal. I dropped one, and the dog made a nice retrieve in a deep channel. In and out in 20 minutes.

I tried to hunt opening pheasant but both places I checked out were absolutely slammed with people that we didn't hang around.

Went out another day midweek and the dog made a fantastic point on a bird but it got up and ran/flushed before I could get in for a shot. Dog locked up later on the edge of some water. I go in to flush and just hear a splash....a crippled mallard popped out of the water 10 yards away and swam away (I had lead shot so I had to let it suffer). Bumped one other rooster later that I missed. :hammer:

Excited for this weekend...still not sure if I'll be working upland or ducks.

I duck hunted Sat and ran the hunt test on Sun.

Just down the road from Dysart's, Bouchard's fields, out back beyond the soccer fields.

The federal gov't is closed, I can't get any info on the banded goose

A male banded in Northwood as a gosling in 2011.

Last week it has been hit or miss and the birds I'm seeing are very wary. Still a 50/50 mix of woodies/mallards. Got a tip on a newly created beaver pond yesterday. We're checking it out tonight. The reports I'm getting from other hunters have not been good. Happy Haloween
