Anyone ever carve duck decoys out of Balsm Wood? My wifes uncle has a ton of blocks that look big enough to make some teal or wood duck decoys. Before I added it to the numerous other things in my garage or basement I thought I would get some input on experience with this.
Any good books or sources on decoy patterns?

Duck....balsa is a nice soft medium and historically many carvers have used it in carving bodies. You'll probably need some weight in the keel. It is pretty expensive though, and difficult to find in a block size suitable for puddlers...but for the smaller birds it looks like you have what you need. Give it a go. In fact....I'll take a few blocks fromya if you need to clear the shelves!!!!!! :cool:
