Question about Schellinger 14 and motors

Postby jjq » Sun Apr 08, 2012 12:52 pm

I am considering a Schellinger 14' high. Most things that I read about are about how fast they are. I am more concerned with with having a good, safe boat. Can you get away with a 20 hp motor on it? My reasoning is that along with hunting the coastal, I want to hunt a lake with a hp restriction.

Yes I would think you would be fine with a 20 on your boat i know a lot of guys that run theirs with 15's depends on how many people you are going to have in the boat and how fast you want to get where you are going.

no 20 hp on a 14', my buddy has one with a 30 HP and has problem getting on planes with 2 guys. i would say 40hp minimum !!!

15-25 hp is fine on a 11' or 12' roy boat but not a 14'

Thanks guys. After looking at the different choices of boats in person, I'm probably looking more towards an 11' or 12' Schellinger. The 14' is huge. If anyone out there is interested in selling one of their's, I would definitely be interested.
