Canadian Snowstorm!!!

Postby pvn6616 » Sat Feb 09, 2013 12:55 pm

It took a little longer driving to the launch ramp this morning, but we really didn't get much snow especially compared to North Jersey and beyond. My partner Chick had to cancel as he was driving down from Exit 105 on the parkway and he said it was really coming down at 3AM and the winds were blowing it sideways. I met Dan, Paul and Haley at 5 and the stars were breaking through at that time, the snow was letting up and we were set to go!

The morning started off slow, but things soon heated up and we ended up with 13 thanks to Paul's expert tracking of a couple of cripples. A good time was had by all and it was great to watch as Haley doubled all by herself on a pair that snuck in on us! We were even fortunate to have connected on 3 banded birds! Quite a day!

It was a pleasure Pete!

Looks like we might have another one lined up for the thurs/fri if you are available.

Both Paul and my bands were Ontario birds...banded a few miles west of Ottawa. My birds was a female banded as a gosling in 2006.

Typical for Dutch, camo face paint, hidden 10 yards back in trees, arrive 3 hours before LST, 3 days of scouting, and hunt over decoys laying on their side. Wish I was there!

That makes 5 bands from the golf course in Ottawa. I guess the biologists now know where their birds go in the winter.

 That's those darn old herters floaters...not worth a crap when the wind is blowing more then 10 mph. The geese didn't seem to care though! And we didn't paint our faces that morning either! I know...shocking right? lol
