Since beginning on a new career path which has altered my hunting habits, I have become a member of the newly formed Tuesday Morning Hunt Club. As sole member, I elected myself president and treasurer. That means I have the final say on how the dues get spent, and as first order of business I purchased a case of 3.5 shells and a new vest for the clubs top retriever, Jack. The club has many excellent ideas and may even vote to rearm all its members. A committee is being formed to research the latest in waterfowling pieces and will make its recommendations to the president, who will then inquire as to the feasibility with the treasurer.
In any event the first meeting came to order at approxiamately 6:33 this morning and everyone was present. (Except the ducks) There was much discussion as to the length of meetings, and it was generally agreed that a few hours were needed to hold a meaningful meeting. The participants were on the edge of the seats all morning in anticipation of new business. Despite the interest, the new business was not very interesting, in fact it got old quick. It wasn't until the meeting was adjourned that the ducks decided to show up.
The president unloaded his gun and had just cased it when a singlr drake Bufflehead stooled right in. He swam around awhile and then five Mergansers landed among the decoys. Not anything the president or other members of the club normally shoot, but it was ironic. As the club appointed guide was picking up the decoys another Bufflehead swung right into the remaining decoys! The members began second guessing themselves for adjourning the meeting prematurely, but there were more important things on the days agenda. Sadly, the first meeting ended around 9AM with plans to hold a second meeting within a weeks time.
