My opinion is all the Brant are down problem is there aren't many left. I have never seen so few Brant as this year. I am surprised they have not taken it off the list of shootable birds I don't think they know how badly their numbers were reduced by the storm last year.

I passed by a ballfield and saw a lot of black and white, as I got closer I see 100 geese and 4 brant...every morning I drive along RT 30 Absecon Bay and also used to see Brant groups of 20-50 here and there. This year I'm lucky if I spot one. I have to agree w/ duk_hunter155, I don't think they really do know how bad they were hurt last year and this spring.

The brant are definitely hurting, but Dutch has been telling me that they also may well be shifting their winter concentrations farther north - Long Island. So, it might not be quite as bad as it looks for the population. Apparently they don't do as extensive a winter survey on LI as they do down here. Unfortunately, this could be a long term trend, too, and Jersey could loose its place as the central concentration area.
