Let the countdown begin

Postby Wallew » Tue Jun 10, 2014 6:46 am

I thought I would post something since there isn't much action on this site in the offseason. I'm sure I'm not the only one ready for another season to begin soon.

80 days till September goose season. I have officially begun my countdown.

It's that time of year. Make up a list of things to be done so it's not a mad scramble to be ready when it's time to hunt.

Things to get done
-chip away at the honey do list and get as much done before the season starts
-replace the plywood in the boat( can't be put off anymore)
-sort out the decoys( replace lines, fix pellet holes and touch up some paint)
-get new early season waders ( they let in more water than they keep out)
-go shoot clays to stay sharp
-check blinds for repairs and maintenance, build a new blind in that spot I've been thinking about
-tune up on outboard
-repaint the canoe for the shallow water work
-start cooking more duck and goose before I start filling the freezer again
-pick up a few small off season gifts for people that let me use their property during the season

I'm sure there are more things that should be on the list but I can't think of them now.

Here's a few photos of happy thoughts. Decoys at sunrise, that hidden jem of a spot no one else knows about, the gray dreary day you get a crowded area to yourself and only need a few decoys and the rare day you find the x for snow geese.

Well it's almost here. 26 days till September goose season.

Just like every year, big plans always fall behind( busy with work and family and the dentist took a big bite out of my wallet) but I have been chipping away.

- new shotgun is patterned and I will be using new shells this season. Kent silversteel 3" number 2 shot
- only got out to shoot clays twice in the last two months
- I did get to take my two oldest daughters out to shoot the 22 for the first time. They had a great time.
- the wife is happy because the main bathroom remodel is 90% done. I better finish real soon though.
-made it out to start a new blind. Going back out in about a week to brush up all the blinds.
-gutted the boat. New plywood and carpet are complete. The new camo paint job is almost done.

How ready for the season are all of you?

Here's a few pictures of the boat's new paint.
