Thank you for starting this thread Tika.

Attention New Jersey Duck Hunters,

As you know, New Jersey has one of the longest standing traditions of waterfowl hunting in our Nation. From the earliest settlers in the late 1600's to present day, waterfowl hunting has been a part of life in New Jersey. Well known throughout the history of our nation, our region was instrumental in developing techniques and tools for waterfowl hunting. From the earliest hand made decoys and wooden boats, New Jersey's waterfowl history is solidified in time and that heritage continues today. Every year, from as early as October and as late as January. From the banks of the Raritan river, to the freshwater creeks and ponds across northern New Jersey, all the way down the Delware river. To the shores of the infamous Barnegat bay, winding south through the Delaware river and Delaware bay, duck hunters continue to carry out the same traditions of waterfowling that were so important to our ancestors in this region. Waterfowl hunting is a heritage that we must protect, not only for ourselves today, but for our ancestors before us and more importantly, for those waterfowl hunters in the future.

Over the last decade, our waterfowling heritage in New Jersey has not been represented accordingly and with the utmost of dedication that it deserves. That WE deserve. Too often waterfowl hunting gets lumped into the general hunting category, and too often the needs and desires of waterfowl hunters does not get represented at the legislative level. As many of you are aware, waterfowl are Federally protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and therefore our season and bag limits are restricted to Federal guidelines. To make matters worse, New Jersey duck hunters are constantly under the threat of losing access to Federally protected tidal waterways due to local political influence by organizations who wish to limit or stop waterfowl hunting in certain areas all together. From tidelands illegally posted as "Wildlife Safety Zones" and "Private Property" to township or municipal "No Discharge" laws, we are under constant threat of losing valuable and historic waterfowl hunting sites. The need for a strong and unified political presence of waterfowl hunters in the state of New Jersey is long overdue. And the wait is over.

The Garden State Waterfowler's Association is a 501(c)4 political lobbying organization, and with your help and support, we can become a powerhouse. Unlike any other waterfowl hunting organization in the state, the GSWA will have the tools and the legal means to face the issues concerning New Jersey duck hunters head on and with full force. From local Counties and Municipalities all the way up to the state Capital, the GSWA will be actively representing our state's duck hunters in every issue, no matter how big or how small.

The time to protect our state's waterfowling heritage and our right to partake in this tradition is now. From the small coffee shops in the north zone, to the boat building garages along the coast, and to the decoy carvers of the south, our organization will be gaining strength and unity by the day. Pass this around and spread the word. We will be holding our first general meeting in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.

As a lobbying organization where does the Garden State Waterfowlers Association stand on the Sunday hunting issue?
Thank you for your interest in GSWA

As per OUR mission statement, We support the accustomed season structure and the traditional/customarily accepted legal hunting days for waterfowl in the state of New Jersey, which DOES NOT include Sunday.

Please direct any future questions to gardenstatewaterfowlers@gmail.com

Thank you!
