Call the Pena Blanca conservancy district, they can explain it to you, tell you how to get a key and what it costs. Not sure if other conservancy districts do this or not, Pena Blanca is the only one I know about.

The conservancy number is in the small game proclamation. You rent/buy the key from them. You have access to most of the Rio Grande downstream from Isleta Pueblo.

Thanks for the input. How far does the gate access go south. I am in Las Cruces and drive up to Truth or Consequences to go hunting. Would I have to drive to Socorro, Or is there key access south of there. I am heading up to Abq for the weekend so I will probably try and buy a key.

It is a better alternative to hunting the Wma's?

The gate access goes, I believe, to Bernardo. It is pretty much open from there on. Hunting on the refuges can be just as rewarding as frustrating as the river.

Yeah if you don't hunt north of T or C the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District Key won't help you. It gets you on the ditches from Los Lunas south to Bernardo. South of there I think its open access other than the boundary gates on the north and south end of Bosque del Apache NWR.
Conserve, promote, protect and enhance...then harvest!

First time is $50, $15 key deposit + $35 for the key/access fee. Provided you don't lose the key it will only cost $35 for next year. The current key is good until Jan 2012

Thanks for the help.... Hopefully school lets me get out and do a day or two of scouting. I feel like there might be some good spots on the north end of caballo. In the proclamation it says that there is limited hunting on Caballo but does not have a boundry map. I hunt a big resevoir back in Colorado and there are signs posted and boundry maps posted at the pay stations. Again, I appreciate the help.

I went Dove hunting Friday morning here in Cruces. Only got two, it was really windy. At about 6:45 four GWT piled right in to this little watering hole. They landed about ten feet from me. Thats my freaking luck, But always cool to seem em land right in your face
