2012 NM State Duck Calling Contest

Postby Cocobola » Wed Feb 15, 2012 4:40 pm

I apologize for the lengthy post, but I want you all to have the scoop and don’t want to leave any details out...

In 2011, Albuquerque native, Ryan Garrett defended his New Mexico State Duck Calling Championship title on a custom DOA Game Call. The question is, will you allow a three-pete? To win the 2012 New Mexico State Duck Calling Contest, it’s going to take a skillful performance to claim victory against New Mexico’s calling elite.

The annual contest will be held at 1:00 p.m. on August 18, 2012 during the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish 2012 New Mexico Outdoor Expo at the City of Albuquerque Shooting Range Park.

The state’s top callers will compete in four categories:

 New Mexico State Junior Open Duck Calling Championship: Open to all callers under the age of 17. Three rounds, 90 second routines, competition style. $5 entry fee per caller.

 New Mexico State Women Open Duck Calling Championship: Open to all female callers. Three rounds, 90 second routines, competition style. $5 entry fee per caller.

 New Mexico State Duck Calling Championship: The contest is open to all New Mexico residents that will attain the age of seventeen (17) as of the hour of the World’s Championship Duck Calling Contest. All participants must bring proof of residency and agree to represent the State of New Mexico at the World’s Championship in 2012, should they win. Should the winner fail to represent the contest, the 2nd place winner can represent the contest at the “Worlds.” Three rounds, 90 second routines, competition style. $30 entry fee per caller.

 New Mexico State Open Team Meat Duck Calling Championship: This is a mallard duck calling 2-person contest, Open to All. Contest will be judged on the best team callers working ducks in from medium range, 250 yards or so. Leave the ringing hail calls alone and make the high end loud greeters. There is no limit on the number of teams a caller can call on. Three rounds, 90 second routines, competition style. $15 entry fee per team.

The winner must be able to attend the World Duck Calling Contest in Stuttgart, Arkansas on November 26, 2012. The event chairman or a committee member must receive the registration fees payable to Ducks Unlimited no later than 12 p.m., M.S.T. on the day of the event.

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, The Duke City Duck Club Albuquerque Chapter of Delta Waterfowl and the Albuquerque Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will sponsor the event this year. Admission to the event is free. For more information contact Lance Cherry, (505) 620-6883 or email lance@cherrymediagroup.com or Carole Shores, (505) 275-0497 or email DuMaDuck@aol.com. So according to this post, the winner of the 2012 state duck calling contest has to represent the state at the World's Calling contest in 2009.

One question- How much to borrow that time machine cause I could really do some things differently in the past.

Not sure what you're talking about... Actually, good catch. It's been fixed, so you can put building the time machine project on the back burner for now.

It is indoors on a stage. We open all the doors. It's loud, but not unreasonable. The building is the steel buildling on the west end of the range.

I'll have to make it our there. I've heard Mr. Garret's name around. He must be pretty good to be state champ back to back years. Is there a soundfile or video of this guy? How has he faired on the Worlds stage? I just retire out of the Midwest and comp calling was pretty big back there it seemed. About like trout fishing is out here.
