ha-ha..... San Marcial area has been real good. The river has been good til about 1030 A.M. as well. Haven't been to the ponds in a good minute but from the people I have talked to , apparently they have sucked this last week.

We're supposed to get a winter storm from the NW on Friday, and it should stick around until about Sunday. Hopefully it brings ducks down. I know I'll be out saturday and sunday AM.

I wonder what Si & Phil would do to find birds now? Plenty of birds around...you just have to be willing!

Phil would tell Willie to warm up the RV, "were going to Kansas".
I heard a rumor that they filmed a hunt at the Butte not to long ago, is that true?
Ive seen a few of there movies that were definitely shot out West somewhere.

Fowl you get it! If the birds aren't where your at, you must find them

That rumor has floated around for years, I believe it to be true, but not sure where they hunted...ahhh, if I'm being truthful many know where they hunted, I just don't want to say.I know because I've seen the video. Things were waaayyy different back then, if you just wanted to shoot a limit it would take about 15-20 minutes, if you were selective and just wanted greenheads 45 minutes if you could shoot well.

Amazing how times have changed

It was 10 years ago. No need for them to come here again. For mallards anyhow.

Yes it was on "Duckmen 8; How the West was Won", 2004.

The upper lake was really starting to dry up about then and it was getting a bit tougher to find and/or get to the birds. But still an awesome place, we only need an 90 foot rise in water level to get it back! From the video it looks like they hunted the river channel somewhere near the lower end of the upper lake, not that it really matters now.

I actually have that movie, I just never been to the Butte.
And I have looked for the birds. Down to Socorro and back checking the river. Also coyote hunted the other day and saw tank after tank full of water and no birds. I know when the birds are here, those holes have birds. Just haven't hit the right spot to kill a few yet. It will be good this weekend though I'm sure.

Went out this morning. Way more birds out there than on Sunday. Came home with three greenheads, and a hen. Shot four coot too but I'm probably the only one here that does that.

Looks like you've knocked off a few geese during the season, keep up the good work. I had a big flock fly 15 yds over my head this AM but we can't start shooting them till after Christmas, in central part of state. Is that a goldeneye hen?

It is indeed a goldeneye hen....anything is fair game when you're sitting on the river and it's 10 degrees! We've been thick with honkers up here this year. There's been several days I coulda had my limit if I wasn't too lazy to carry those mofos all the way back to the truck :)

Got this nice limit earlier in the week before the big cool down, had to work hard to get to "the spot". Must of pulled 1000 cockleburs off me and everything else I had with me.

Well well Well. Good shootin in weather like that. I am sure finger tips were frozen numb. By the way. Since you found our spot on the river. Can you add that tire in the back ground to brush up our blind more.. lol.........

The Shadow within me. Killer 6-bird bag limit allows...... Must of been around the same time with our demented minds. By the way. Cockleburs make a great coat for camo. The pups get the worse of it.

I'll do what I can NB, but it's pretty much frozen in place, so it may have to wait til spring...

JR, that's some damn good stuff

Killed a couple of sprigs myself today. No sprigs to speak of, but I don't really care. My favorite birds and harder for me to kill than just about anything.

Some nice birds QA. Pintails are also my favorite, right after greenheads. And when it rains it pours, that day I could had shot at least 50 times at pintails, seemed like a nearly endless stream coming over me, along with an occasional mallard, and assorted other ducks. Strong wind really had them stirred up, also made for some tough shooting. Had left the camera in the truck unfortunately so didn't get any pics of the birds flying over.

Anyone's pintails have much of a sprig yet? Colors are nice, but I haven't seen one yet.
