Why do I shoot 3.5" shells for ducks and geese ? Because they don't make 4" yet

Well, I haven't been quite as productive as most of you guys, but I'm still getting out and having fun...although it appears new waders may be in order.

Get you some aquaseal jay. It will hold that tear a while longer...Beaver chewed salt cedars will give a rude awakening when putting out dekes.

Yeah it was a beaver-hewn Russian olive...got real cold real fast. Those waders are already about 80% aqua seal, so I may breakdown and use my cabelas gift card I got for xmas. Needless to say, a tube of aqua seal is going in the backpack. Although this managed to get me back across the river...lasted about 3 steps...

First I stuffed my neoprene glove in the hole...then I tied my duck strap as tight as I could manage...

Then when I got home, I made these...

Oh snap! Back for more, you proved you can do it, and don't care about the hens you shot either. I myself have plenty of friends on this forum with a willingness to make more...Just being cool with each other can go a long ways! We each have our method to getting the birds, so respect each other regardless of if we actually will hunt together or not. Keep it civil and you will be rewarded with kindness. I really have no problems with most of the members here, even if all it amounts to is a short conversation on this forum. Time for this season is running out. I wish the best of luck to everybody! I will make the long drive to NM next week, from TX, to finish out the season. BTW I grew up in ABQ and duck hunted there since I was a kid.

The last few days have been pretty tough in the southern part of the state. Stale birds, zero wind, and pretty warm temps are making the birds sit pretty tight. Luckily, there's been a bunch of teal around to salvage things. Had a good friend out for a week of chasing deer and ducks. We saw one really nice buck(I'd guess in the 150-160" range) and one other shooter...no rutting action at all where we were. Walked our asses off for 2.5 days and he wanted to start chasing ducks.

He killed his Mexican duck and a stud of a pintail and got to see more big ducks in 3-4 days of hunting than he will in a few years of hunting in SC, so he was happy. I think we ended up with 34 birds in 4 hunts. Not as good as I was hoping for for him, or as good as it has been the whole rest of the season, but the weather(or lack there of) really kicked us in the nuts. 7 days of going non-stop from daylight till dark has me worn slap out.

my first attempt was much more scientific...but getting a ziplock bag or empty shell hot enough to melt and stick to galvanized rubber with a mini bic lighter is quite a task...my thought process was that maybe, just maybe, i could get the plastic to liquify and somehow "weld" the tear...i saw quite a few teal this past weekend too, which seems weird...but what was even weirder is that as i'm standing there waiting for legal shooting time, teal were everywhere, groups of 5-10 landing in my decoys, buzzing my head, it felt like early October...then like someone flicked a switch...6:55 and they're gone, and i didn't see another one all day.

My brother was over last week and we had 3 great hunts, weather was nice. Last year it was brutally cold when he was here and the hunting sucked, so this made up for it. We got 34 in 3 hunts, including 26 mallards and 2 pintails. Crazy good times in the desert, too bad my other brother from La. couldn't make it. Right now I'm battling a bad chest cold, feel like crap, looks like I will miss opening day (Friday) of my archery ibex hunt.

Jay, I think you should have built a fire on the river bank...might have gotten you the BTUs that you needed. :lol3:

Sounds like north > south right now. Nice hunts JR. Good luck and be careful on that Ibex hunt. Hope you've been practicing some LOOONG shots.

I think you're wearing the wrong jersey...you don't look like a lineman.
