Postby STICKLER » Mon Mar 17, 2014 8:54 pm

Was doing some surveying of West TX this evening and came across a playa with Snow Geese and speckles of duck or coots. Do a search 34°22'37.11" N 102°47'51.18" W

Why do I shoot 3.5" shells for ducks and geese ? Because they don't make 4" yet

And I thought I was a google earth master...that's pretty neat.

BFM, I don't know how many hours I've spent google-earthing that area since I moved out here, but I've never seen any snows.

Who knows when the picture was from but ya if you look east of the tracks there's a bunch . Or atleast when I looked a couple weeks ago.

san marcial is duck, canada and snow heaven. Right by the railroad track bridge.only reason I say anything is because I don't get out there often anymore

Google earth is nice because it's not usually up to date.

You can find spots that will have water during winter, and prep it during summer. I can't even explain all the small hidden ponds along the Rio I have found because of it.

Also if you search old posts from back when on here , people say a little too much. Those spots then were abandoned since then and are ripe for pickin

I see what you looking at BFM 33°40'27.98" N 106°59'53.93" W I will be honest and say this one has stumped me before. It appears to be a shimmer from strong south winds when the photo was taken. There's even more on the pond to the south. Then the question is why is it only in certain spots? The wind is being reflected off the bluff to the east and concentrating in certain areas as it passes over the pond would be the best answer I can come up with.
