Depends what your idea of driving distance is. If you're willing to drive a hundred miles, yeah, there's duck hunting. I live in Santa Fe and regularly drive that far to hunt ducks.
Thanks I was just wondering cause my girlfriend has family that lives there might go visit and I would love to have a chance to kill me a cinnamon teal.
Haven't been to this places in a while but it is more or less west of Santa Flush, it is called Buckmans Mesa. Road goes directly to the Rio. You should be able to jump up a few or evn set up decoys. A real kick is to float that section of the Rio but finding a take out without going into Cochiti is the problem.
Probably too late on this, but I thought I'd comment on hunting in the White Rock Canyon west of Santa Fe. Its a beautiful area, but is tough to hunt because of tight cover and the deep and fast water. But it is a lot of fun if you can get a shot off at one of the fast moving mallards flying down the river.
