Swan Sighting

Postby Dirt » Mon Jan 07, 2008 6:29 am

I had one light up in the decoys at a popular wma sunday.
It came in five ft. off the water and less than ten yards away.
I say both of its black feet and didnt see any bands. It landed
six feet away from my lucky duck. This was about 12:45 and hunters started to leave and walked by it. It didnt even move
or care. So I walked out to make sure nobody popped it. It just
looked at me about from fifty yards away and could care less I was
taking pictures of it. It just swam away. Not sure what kind it was
but I've never seen one in my twenty two years hunting waterfowl
in this state. I would say its days are numbered around here.
I heard bout five years ago of a couple that were shot at bernardo.

You'd have to be a first class idiot to shoot a swan in NM. I might take one if it was legal but even then I'm not sure.
Did you get any good pics. Post em up if so.

No swans but we do have about 200 Pelicans living on Brantley Lake. Them things are big. Solid white with black wing tips.

Got to hunt once with dad (before he died) at Bernardo. Fall of 1999, North side, and someone shot one there. I yelled Swan, too late. Then the guy started yelling at his dog that went to retrieve it. That went on for a while, pathetic.
Everything they say about black labs is true.

I know the guy who's dog went and retrieved it. He said someone
else shot it and his dog went and got it. Musta been fun trying
to explain that to the warden.
